A product of the Aberdeen youth system, Kieran came through the ranks at Pittodrie and played under the guidance of former Arbroath Manager Paul Sheerin.
In November 2020 Kieran joined Inverurie Locos and the young striker made an instant impact scoring 30 goals in 44 appearances, catching the attention of several other SPFL clubs. Kieran ended the 2020/2021 season on a high claiming Players Player of the Year along with Committees Player of the Year.
The 21-year-old centre forward then signed for Scottish Championship club Arbroath on a three-year deal and went on to make 21 appearances in total for Dick Campbell’s side. In January Shanks was loaned to League One side Peterhead where he gained more experience of first team football.
