It’s cup final day as Raith Rovers and Hamilton Academical compete for the 2023 SPFL Trust Trophy title. The match is a 4.15pm kick off and will be staged at The Falkirk Stadium.
This will be Raith’s third consecutive appearance in the final of this competition as they aim to make it back-to-back wins after last year’s triumph where they defeated Queen of the South 3-1 to be crowned winners.
Today will be the fourth time the two teams have met this season, with Rovers coming out on top in all three previous meetings so far. Their first encounter was back in August, when goals from Dylan Easton and Jamie Gullan sealed a 2-0 away win, and it was the same winning margin at Stark’s Park in November, when goals from Easton, Aidan Connolly and Liam Dick secured a 3-1 victory. It was a far tighter match at New Douglas Park in January though, with Jamie Gullan’s early goal all that separated the teams.
Raith skipper Brownis set to lead his side into today’s game and is hopeful he can use his disappointment of missing out on St Johnstone’s 2014 Scottish Cup winning squad to drive the team to victory today.
“I was on the bench for the semi-final and then I was the 19th man.”
“I wouldn’t say I knew it was coming but I’d played the week before against Celtic and I scored and we drew 3-3.”
“I was thinking it was maybe enough. I was really disappointed to end up not being involved and it’s kind of weird being there and not being involved especially on a cup final day. You’re happy for the boys but you really want to be part of it. It’s stuff like that that inspires me to go out there on Sunday and hopefully we can win that trophy.”
Wishing the best of luck to all our clients involved for today’s final!
