Ross Callachan was again on target for Hamilton Academical this afternoon in a 3-0 win in the second North Lanarkshire Derby of the season. Ross returned to the starting eleven after a short spell out having missed the previous three games.
As for the visitors, they travelled off the back of Stephen Robinson’s departure earlier in the week and with caretaker manager Keith Lasley in charge. Both teams sat close at the bottom end of the Scottish Premiership so a win for either would be a big boost.
The scoring was opened ten minutes into the first half, and after poor defending from the visitors Lee Hodson fired his shot into the bottom right-hand corner to give the home side the advantage. Callachan doubled Accies lead four minutes after the break and Callum Smith made sure of the points after he scored his first goal for the club just after the hour mark.
It was a big three points for the North Lanarkshire side moving them above their local rivals in the table and leaving Motherwell joint bottom with Ross County.
Ross Callachan gave his thoughts after the match:
“I’m delighted for the boys they were brilliant today it was a big win for us. It is the best we have played this season and once we got the first goal we managed to kick on and finish the game off.
I just hope we can kick on now because the results the last few weeks have been great, and the aim now is to try and stay as far clear as possible from the bottom of the table so hopefully we can use the confidence boost we got from today’s win and take it into next week’s game at Kilmarnock.”
