Ross Callachan Earns Staggies Crucial Point

Callachan scored his fourth goal of the season to bring Ross County level in 1-1 draw at home to Aberdeen.

Ross County earned another important point at home to Aberdeen this evening making it two consecutive games where they have claimed points as they fight to avoid the drop. Malkay McKays side took confidence into this evening’s tie after an impressive 3-3 outing against Rangers on Sunday.

Jonny Hayes opened the scoring in Dingwall for the visiting side just after the break however Callachan was on hand to level quickly for the hosts five minutes later.

County now sit in tenth position in the league, five points clear of both St Johnstone and Dundee, although they have played a game more.

Callachan was delighted to have helped the team pick up what could be crucial points come the end of the season and spoke after the game admitting that the last few performances how shown just how far the team has come.

“It’s a good point at the end of the day. I think it was two teams who probably weren’t at their best in terms of the actual game. It was like basketball at times. After the game with Rangers where we got a point, that was a good result and we wanted to go again. We recovered well so we were ready. Another point is a good result.

From going behind, we showed character to stay in the game. We got the goal back and might have went on to win it, but they could probably say the same.

It shows how far we’ve come. We just need to keeping taking those wee steps forward and keep building on what we’ve got in the dressing room. We have only lost one in seven at home. We want to make it hard for teams to come up here.”

The County midfielder’s goal takes him to four for the current campaign. It follows an excellent campaign last year, in which he netted 10 goals for Hamilton Academical prior to his move to Dingwall. Ross spoke of his delight in finding the net and is aiming to help contribute more to the team this season.

“I’m happy with the goal. I’ve not scored a goal like that in a while. I just had to take a second and get a good connection on the ball. Thankfully I did that, I caught it well and I’m glad it could help us get the point. I want to be contributing to the team and if I can keep scoring goals then that’s a bonus.”
