Lee Ashcroft made his first appearance for Dundee at Den’s Park this evening in their 1-0 victory over Scottish League One side Peterhead. This was ‘The Dark Blues’ first outing of the new season and Ashcroft took his place in the centre of defence as he looked to get some much-needed match fitness ahead of the new Scottish Championship season next month.
As for Peterhead, Scott Brown was in action as he captained the side at Den’s Park in their opening pre-season friendly.

Both sides struggled to settle in the opening stages of the match in a deserted Den’s Park. After a highly competitive first half an hour, with chances for both sides, Dundee took the lead five minutes before the interval. Christie Elliott used his pace down the right-hand side, slipped a pass inside to new signing Alex Jakubiak before he found Paul McGowan who took the ball round the keeper and slotted into an empty net.
The second half was full of changes as both managers used their squads to give players minutes, however Dundee finished strongly keeping a clean sheet and opening their pre-season with a 1-0 win. Match sharpness was evidently lacking but both sets of players will be satisfied as they got some much-needed match time before the competitive action begins next month.
Lee Ashcroft signed with Dundee in July from Dunfermline Athletic.
James McPake’s men were handed a tough fixture away to Hearts on the opening day of the Scottish Championship as both clubs aim for promotion back to the top flight. Peterhead however, who look to improve on their eighth place position in League One last year, begin their league campaign at Airdrie. Both matches take place on Saturday 17th October.
