Manager Jim Bentley welcomes Max to Mill Farm.
After impressing in midweek against Wigan Athletic Under 23’s, Max joins up with the squad as he looks set to make his debut for the club against Warrington Town this afternoon. This will be the clubs second pre-season match as they work towards the league opener against Darlington on the 6th October at Mill Farm.
Having previously played for Scottish Premiership side St Johnstone, Max signed with the Lancashire club in hope of more first team opportunities. At the age of 22, Johnstone has an impressive CV having come through the youth academies of English giants Manchester United and Sunderland.
After putting pen to paper on Thursday, Max spoke of his delight on joining the club: “I’m buzzing to sign for Fylde and to be back in the football environment. It has been a long six months and I am excited to hopefully get a chance this season. Thanks to everyone at Superior Sports for getting me the opportunity and for getting the deal sorted.”
“I can’t wait for the season to start; it’s been a long time since I last played due to the lockdown. Hopefully, I can get minutes under my belt this season and help the team achieve promotion back to the National League.”
Max completed his move to AFC Fylde on Thursday.
Following last seasons relegation, Jim Bentley’s side are hoping for an immediate return to the National League at the first time of asking. There is a packed schedule for clubs due to the late start this season and Max hopes this will give him more opportunities to compete for the number one shirt.
The league campaign gets underway next month with home games against Darlington, Kettering Town and Farsley Celtic. Their first away game in the league is a trip to Gateshead before they face Alfreton Town on the 24th October. A further ten games follow until 2021 and AFC Fylde will hope to be up at the top end of the table come the end of the season.
