Hamilton picked up their first league win since September this afternoon to move off the foot of the Scottish Premiership table.

A scrappy game in poor conditions resulted in a limited number of clear-cut chances for both sides, however the hosts were handed a boost when Clevid Dikamona was sent off for Killie in the first half for serious foul play.

Hamilton took advantage of the extra man creating several chances in the first half however it was not until the seventy second minute that pressure eventually paid off for the home side. A Callachan strike from inside the box struck the hand of Brandon Haunstrup resulting in a penalty being awarded to Brian Rice’s side. Callachan himself despatched the spot kick calmly placing it down the middle to hand Accies the opener and all three points.

After a well-deserved victory Hamilton boss Brian Rice said, “Today was about kicking on from the Aberdeen and Dundee United performances and I thought that we did that. Especially in the second half. I know they were down to ten men, but it can be difficult against ten. We kept a clean sheet, and it was a good day for us, a good week.

“We’ve had the Covid situation and we’ve had lots of injuries but we’re now getting boys back and they’re fighting for their places in the team.”
